The Growth Year Roadmap: Do You Need One? And Which Kind?
Not every strong applicant needs a growth year, but for the ones who need to, or choose to, picking the right kind can make or break the next cycle. In this interactive session, students will learn how to self-assess whether a growth year belongs in their plan at all, and if so, whether an academic growth year (post-bacc, SMP, coursework repair) or an experiential one (clinical hours, research, service, life experience) actually addresses their gap. No generic "take a gap year and figure it out" advice, just a clear decision framework students can apply to their own transcript, MCAT, and experience profile on the spot.

Attendees will walk away with:
• A simple self-assessment tool to diagnose why their application might need more time
• A clear academic vs. experiential decision framework, not a one-size-fits-all answer

• Although medical schools use interviews as a tool to evaluate applicants, it's also a chance for applicants to evaluate the culture of a medical school and determine which schools are the best fit for them. This session will share tips for preparing for both virtual and in-person interviews, explain how schools use interviews as part of their assessment process, allow participants to view live mock interviews and hear feedback from current admissions officers.

This session will focus on the details and reality of paying for medical school and how it will all be worth it, even if you borrow student loans to attend. You will hear from a medical school financial aid officer who has seen it all and a national expert on physician loan repayment as they explain medical school cost of attendance, grants, scholarships, federal and private student loans while dispelling myths about each. There will be plenty of time for Q&A.
